Donald Trump anunció que tomará "decisiones importantes" sobre Siria

El mandatario se pronunció tras el presunto ataque químico que habría matado a al menos 40 personas en Duma.

El presidente estadounidense Donald Trump afirmó este lunes que en los próximos días tomará "decisiones importantes" respecto a la situación en Siria, luego de advertir que Damasco tiene un "alto precio a pagar" por el supuesto ataque químico contra una localidad controlada por rebeldes.

"Fue un odioso ataque a inocentes. Esto es sobre la humanidad, no se puede permitir que suceda. Si es Rusia, si es Siria, si es Irán, si están todos juntos, lo averiguaremos", dijo Trump, y agregó que anunciará su decisión en las "próximas 24-48 horas".

"Muchos muertos, incluidas mujeres y niños, en un ataque químico sin sentido en Siria. El área de atrocidades está bloqueada y rodeada por el ejército sirio, por lo que es completamente inaccesible para el mundo exterior. El presidente Putin, Rusia e Irán son responsables de respaldar al animal de Asad", tuiteó el mandatario el domingo.

La Defensa Civil Siria, vinculada con la oposición, pudo documentar 42 decesos. Siria y su aliado Rusia han negado el uso de armas químicas. Ninguna otra fuente confirmó que se tratara de un bombardeo con armas químicas, y tanto Rusia como Damasco negaron el uso de este tipo de armamento en Duma.

Por otra parte, el secretario de Defensa estadounidense James Mattis aseguró que "no descarta" acciones militares contra Siria. Si se confirma que el régimen sirio realizó el ataque, se trataría de la novena vez que Al Asad emplea armas químicas contra la población siria.
