La eliminación de Rusia en manos de Francia fue un golpe muy duro. Aún así el año sigue para la Selección y tiene partidos confirmados para lo que resta de 2018. 

​El equipo dirigido por Jorge Sampaoli volverá a ver acción en septiembre cuando se abra una nueva fecha FIFA de partidos amistosos entre selecciones.

De hecho, el del 7/9 es hasta ahora el único amistoso confirmado por la AFA después de la Copa del Mundo. El partido será ante Guatemala en Los Ángeles, Estados Unidos.

Tanto en octubre como en noviembre habrá doble fecha FIFA, pero Argentina todavía no tiene ningún partido confirmado.

Serán las primeras pruebas para que el combinado nacional comience a hacer el tan esperado recambio y reorganizar los cimientos de un equipo destruido.

El primer torneo que afrontará la Selección será en 2019, en la Copa América de Brasil. El vigente campeón es Chile que se coronó en la edición de 2016. Cabe recordar que el campeón de este torneo representará a la Conmebol en la Copa Confederaciones 2021.
