Roger Federer venció a Marin Cilic y se coronó campeón del Abierto de Australia

El suizo ganó en cinco sets y se quedó con el 20º Grand Slam de su carrera.

La leyenda de Roger Federer (2º) sigue agigantándose con el paso del tiempo. Este domingo, el suizo volvió a dar una muestra de su enorme vigencia al derrotar al croata Marin Cilic (6º) por 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3, 3-6 y 6-1, para coronarse así campeón del Abierto de Australia.

Fue el sexto título en Melbourne para Roger -el segundo consecutivo-, que obtuvo el 20º Grand Slam de su carrera. Ningún tenista masculino tiene más Majors que él a lo largo de la historia: los que lo siguen en la lista son Rafael Nadal con 16, Pete Sampras (14), Roy Emerson (12) y Novak Djokovic (12).

De todas maneras, esta final no fue tarea sencilla. Por segundo año consecutivo, el helvético necesitó cinco sets para coronarse campeón, en un encuentro que sorpresivamente se disputó bajo el techo cubierto de la Rod Laver Arena, debido a las altas temperaturas.

Tras superar una situación complicada en el comienzo del quinto parcial, Federer logró imponerse luego de tres horas y tres minutos y se quedó con el título.

El triunfo de este domingo no le servirá para recuperar el primer lugar del Ranking ATP, pero deja la diferencia con Nadal en tan solo 155 puntos.

"Estoy muy feliz, es inevitable. Es un sueño hecho realidad, el cuento de hadas continúa para mí. Después del gran año pasado, esto es increíble", declaró entre lágrimas el suizo en la entrega de trofeos.

"Es por ustedes, los que están en este estadio, por los que sigo entrenando, gracias por todo. Y a mi equipo, los quiero", dijo antes de romper a llorar, con la voz cortada por la emoción.
